Training on Sustainable Development at SSU
On April 29, at the initiative of the Sustainable Development Center of Sumgayit State University (SSU), a training on “Sustainability and Environmental Management, Transformation to Sustainable Development at Sumgayit State University” was held by HSE Manager of SOCAR Downstream Urea Plant, Nurlan Akhundov. Acting director of the Career and Alumni Center, Ruhangiz Amirova opened the training, spoke about the achievements made in ensuring sustainable development in the country, the role of higher education institutions in this area, as well as local and international projects in which the university participates. Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university, Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee, Associate Professor Rashad Salimov made a speech, emphasized the relevance of the topic of the training, and provided information about the Sustainable Development Center established at SSU, as well as the operating Sustainable Development Committee. He spoke about the 17 global goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, noting the importance of these goals for the sustainable future of the world. Then, HSE Manager of SOCAR Downstream Urea Plant, Sustainable Development Goals Expert of SSU, Nurlan Akhundov delivered a speech on the topic “What is Sustainability” and provided detailed information on the goals and principles of sustainable development, innovative green approaches, green business concept, the interaction between the university and sustainability, and environmental protection. He also emphasized the transformation opportunities towards sustainable development at Sumgayit State University and the active role of students in this process. It should be noted that the training lasted for two days.
